Things of Beauty: March - April

 Very Favorite Things
Napping kittens curled up on the living room floor (who even as I wrote this ceased as the Marmalader jumped up on my keyboard to ask for some cuddles), postcards from a very dear friend, this post from another dear friend, TOY STORY 3 (so much cuteness! I really think it might be my favorite of them!), quiet mornings when my mother and I are the only waking ones in the house, my baby lettuce plants and NOW my own homegrown lettuce for lunch!

Reading
Huge amounts of time sprinkled between times of not much at all, but they were really good stories, some of which will likely be appearing on my review blog in the coming weeks!

She looks very much like Elise. :)

Writing
Some really good days and other... not so delightful ones. I've discovered my current secret though, I need to get started early enough in the day that my rush of post first-opening-the-document-inspiration doesn't come when I'm laying in bed. Also, while blogging was somewhat sparse I did do several posts, here are two favorites, this and this, the photo flow of the second giving me particular thrills. :)

Out-Of-Doors
Purple violets (and white too!), rainy days and cool afternoons drenched with sunshine and breezes. The grass is running riot now, and my garden is growing! It's the first year ever that I've really grown lettuce and not only is it thriving, but perfectly delicious too! Besides which my brother got me two trays of various seedlings for my birthday! Plants = one of the best presents ever. :)

Cooking
This isn't cooking persay, but is making... my avocado mint chocolate pudding, for breakfast every day. I keep telling myself I should branch out more, but it's so crazy good and healthy too. :)

Discoveries
Do not be overzealous when it comes to exercise!
I became excited about a new workout idea, overexerted myself and was quite fatigued for two weeks straight having then to drag myself around for a third. I simply didn't have time to be really sick or I would have. :) So trust me peoples, don't do it. I have now returned to tried and true favorites, a reformed and wiser character.

Gardening is super rejuvenating for me.
The quiet time while keeping my eye on a pair of crazy, tumbling kittens, conversations with my horse in her corral not far off, my fingers in the soil, my heart bubbling over with gratitude... every sense of it is pure joy.

What were some of the delights of your March and April?

  1. I loved this post (and all your pretty pictures too!)
Oh yes, I've noticed both white and purple violets too. They're both really pretty! I love all the tulips and other flowers coming up in the garden.
Your description of gardening sounds so perfect. I wish I had kittens! :(

    1. Abby,
Thanks! Isn't it amazing how every spring there always seems there is something new to notice?

Kittens/cats are an excellent investment for daily happiness and joy. :)

  2. I'm trying to imagine avocado mint chocolate pudding, and failing miserably. Which doesn't usually happen -- usually I can look at a list of ingredients and kind of figure out what it'll be like. Thinking I'll just have to take your word for this being good.

I wish I had lettuce up! Our little bitty vegetable garden's fence got chewed through by a woodchuck last fall, and we realized we needed something more substantial, but it wasn't until yesterday that Cowboy and I finally had time to really suss out what we wanted to do for a new fence and then go to Lowe's for supplies. Whereupon we changed our minds completely as to what fence we want, but we did come home with everything we need, so now it just needs to quit raining every evening so we can go build it. But until there's a fence, there can be no planting, because we are overrun with adorable little bunnies, the woodchuck is probably still around, and we have deer.

    Sigh.

But my container garden is flourishing! So I've been able to play in the dirt there, at least. I'll try to post pics soon too.

    1. Hamlette,
Trust me, if done right you would never know there were avocados within its creamy deliciousness. :)

I loved hearing your fence story. Lowe's has that dangerous power of turning one's most well laid plans completely on their head. :) Isn't it crazy how the most adorable animals can be SO bothersome?

Oh but I am glad about your container garden! I greatly enjoyed your post about it.

  3. Awww! My post is one of your favorite things! I feel very happy, indeed. :)

I find it so difficult to pick a favorite from the Toy Story trilogy! I love them all, but if I HAD to choose, I think I may go with #3 as well. ;)

Baby lettuce plants! They sound adorable and must taste REALLY good. :)

I'm sorry writing has been a little difficult, lately! But oh, I did love your last two blog posts...and guess what? I know I told you that "The Light of the Western Stars" skyrocketed on my TBR list, but I haven't yet told you that I GOT IT FROM THE LIBRARY AND AM READING IT RIGHT NOW! :D I'm on chapter 9, and guess what? I am in love with this story!I am SO glad you recommended it. If I continue to love it as much as I do right now (I really hope I will!) it will definitely become a favorite!! :)

    Soo....yes. Hopefully that's exciting news. ;)

I love these posts of yours, as usual. :) Your spring sounds so beautiful and happy!

    1. Natalie,
It most certainly is! Reading it was one of the epic moments of my Spring. :)

Ah yes, each Toy Story seems to be only more epic than the last! Arwen found an article somewhere that says they are making a fourth, but it's been in production such a long time that I'm not sure if it will ever come out! But then I don't know a terrible lot about these things. :)

Baby lettuce is extremely tasty. My favorite way to eat it is to take a slice of sourdough bread, pile it with an absolute mountain of lettuce and then top with tomato. It makes me feel extremely French and is SOO yummy, too.

That is most certainly exciting news! :)

      Thanks sweet friend!

    2. Eowyn,
      Awww. :)

Yes, I heard about a 4th one too, but as you said, I'm not sure when or if it will ever come to be!

I have never tried that! I have to admit I'm not a big fan of tomatoes, but I've grown to tolerate them in my salad or on a sandwich. ;)

When reply to your letter I will include all my thoughts on TLoWS. :)

    1. Rachel,
Ah, thank you very much for your comments about both the post and blog and WELCOME! :)

*reads your profile* And I actually did read your movie list and it looks like we share several favorites: Cinderella 2015, the '08 S&S (much dreaminess between those two!) and Lark Rise to Candleford, which, I strongly believe, is one of the loveliest period dramas ever!
