Goals + Green Smoothies

Yesterday I was feeling quite opposed (even antagonistic) to the idea of New Year’s Resolutions -- even though, especially in the latter part of this year I’ve not only benefited from, but really relished making monthly goals (POPilates calendar every day of December!). So what is the matter?

Fast forward to this morning. I was listening to Kimberly Snyder’s newest podcast (BTW: though I think VERY highly of much of her information I cannot 100% recommend this one or any of the other podcasts, so use your own wisdom when researching) where she was talking about not making great spreading goals, but rather making Little Step Goals that challenge you, while also giving satisfaction along the way. The illustration she used was that instead of making it a goal to drink her GGS every day for breakfast, failing, getting discouraged, and giving it up altogether, why not make it a goal to drink it three days a week and then when that feels good build up from there? Funny thing is that I had that exact difficulty! I was drinking the GGS, got tired of it (perhaps trying to drastically reduce the fruit in the tasty, but already very green smoothie had something to do with it?) and proceeded to not drink it for months.

Then… PING it clicked! Why not use that idea for everything?! (I know it is a very simple one, but something about the way she phrased the matter, just clicked for me. :)) This is by no means everything I have to work toward. It is also not the things I have been doing regularly in 2015 and aim to carry on, nor does it contain seasonal ones, but I think they are the ones that will be of the most interest to my readers.

- 10 minutes blog work, correspondents, etc. every day. This is an area of which I am inclined to be terribly neglectful of, even though I greatly enjoy and value the blessing it is. Talk about an oxymoron.

- 10 minutes every day toward finishing my GED (I should be able to do way more, but I want to keep it in the definitely manageable zone for any day.)

- Sew three days a week.

- In addition to any other reading, read one Zane Grey or L.M. Montgomery book every month as I find them to consistently be my #1 most inspirational authors.

- Work toward my handstand. (I’ve nearly mastered a plain headstand!)

- Write down three things I am thankful for every day.

And I had to throw this one in for good measure, because I truly was thinking of it already,

- GGS three times a week for breakfast. :)

Throughout the year, more Insp. for things to be accomplished will no doubt be given to me, but those are the basic, practical things I have thought of so far.

The others things upon my list are a little different -- such as travel -- that are more subject to change. And of course, there is so much spinning around in my head that (while it may not be exactly connected to the beginning of the calendar year) is quite applicable to it. Living with a vim and gratitude for what is and what is to come, with eyes and heart open with thankfulness for all the little and great bits of adventure God spills into life.

So that’s it my friends. :) What of you? What are some of your goals for this year? I’d dearly love to hear!

  1. Great goals Eowyn! It's a great idea to keep them small and simple.
One of my goals for this year is to read the New Testament twice. For the past 2 or 3 years I have read through the entire Bible but I always hated certain OT parts. So this year I decided to stick to the more interesting and more applicable NT.
    Happy 2016!

    1. Lydia,
Thanks! And only a week into working on my goals I am already greatly
      appreciating the simplicity part!

      That's a great goal!

Happy new year to you too. :)

  2. Great list, Éowyn! I know how you feel about the blogging/correspondence. Even though it's such a highlight, it's so easy to fall behind in it! Ooh, I might have to steal the 3 Things idea. That's fantastic.

    1. Olivia,
Thank you! It is so easy to push blogging and whatnot onto the back
burner so to speak! Isn't it strange how hard it can be to get to things
you love? It seems like it would be so easy and yet it isn't. :)

I hope you do! It's such a practice in seeing the joy in life.

  3. Happy 2016, Eowyn! This is a great idea and I love the goals you listed. And haha, I too understand about the blogging/correspondence. Not only do a fall behind doing it, I can get easily distracted from what I need to do online by reading blog posts or browsing pictures from a favorite movie. I've learned to do "little goals" by saying "today I will email such and such" or "today I'll work on this blog post". It does help, although I still need to improve on my time management. :)

    1. Natalie,
Oh my yes! The internet can be SO distracting!!! I was just looking for photos for my newest blog post and it was so challenging, but meanwhile... I came across an entire treasure trove of inspiration for stories I'm not even "working" on right now! It's funny how things can
      get so tangled. :)

    2. Eowyn,
Oh my, that sounds like something that has happened to me way too many times! ;) Sometimes it can be rather fun, but so distracting when you actually need to GET THINGS DONE. haha

    3. Natalie,
Inspiration is such a funny thing, isn't it? So hard to come by sometimes and then coming with heart-stopping suddenness at others!

  4. Gradually working towards goals is the way to go! It makes the transition far easier. Some of my goals for this year are to work on four books this year and to start journaling a page a day which I'll begin tomorrow since I've had company up till yesterday and I'm still exhausted from it. XD

    1. Victoria,
It is such a great idea, isn't it? And such a simple one, too. I feel rather funny that I didn't "think" of it before. Oh well, sometimes the simple things of life are the hardest to see. :) Are those four books
ones that you are reading or writing? Either way it sounds like lots of fun. :) Journaling is enjoyable: I like how it makes you feel like someone in a book or movie while doing it.

      Have a restful weekend!
